Iraq Plans Free Residential Land Program for Families Without Homes

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi announced that the government is working on a comprehensive housing initiative aimed at providing free residential land plots to Iraqi families that do not own a home.

According to Al-Zaidi, the program will rely on a public-private partnership model to finance and develop the land. The government plans to collaborate with private-sector investors and business leaders to prepare residential plots and support infrastructure development.

The initiative will also utilize social benefit funds allocated by oil companies and the Ministry of Electricity to help finance infrastructure projects, while the state will cover the remaining costs needed to complete the program.

Potential Impact on Iraq’s Real Estate Market

If implemented, the initiative could:

  • Increase the supply of residential land.
  • Support urban expansion and new housing developments.
  • Improve homeownership opportunities for Iraqi families.
  • Stimulate investment in infrastructure and housing-related projects.
